Maximum width: 19 cm. Depth: 5cm rim \/ nose: 7cm","descriptiondemo":"This mask, with its remarkable patina of use synonymous with great age, represents a human face. The circumference is adorned with holes for the headdress and neckpiece, and for the beard and cloak. The whole was blackened with bancoul nut powder (Aleurites molluccana Willd).\r\nThe almond-shaped eyes are not pierced, as the wearer looked through the mouth opening.\r\nThe nose is curved with flattened nostrils. The lipless mouth is limited to a simple opening. The chin is stylized by an inclined plane projecting forward.\r\n\r\nAbsent from mourning rituals like the masks from the north of Grande Terre, the mask from the center and south is more the image of a protean divinity.\r\nRejected by the first missionaries, the mask quickly disappeared as evangelization efforts progressed.\r\n\r\nThis model is similar to the one kept at the Mus\u00e9e du Quai Branly donated by Andr\u00e9 Vayson de Pradennes (Inv. n\u00b071.1950.30.200), and to the one from the former Maurice de Vlaminck collection kept at the Mus\u00e9e d'Histoire Naturelle et d'Ethnographie de Lille (Inv n\u00b0 997.6.2).","photosdemo":[81002,81003,81004],"featured_image":"81003","oeuvre_vendue_":"Non","videooeuvre":0,"iframe_3d_oeuvre":""},"aioseo_notices":[],"featured_image_url":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Kanak-masque-scaled.jpg","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/oeuvres_frankmarceli\/81005","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/oeuvres_frankmarceli"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/oeuvres_frankmarceli"}],"acf:attachment":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/81004"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/81003"},{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/81002"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/81003"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/artviewoasis.com\/fr\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=81005"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
