(2 cm)\r\n\r\nUnique piece\r\n\r\n<em>Marks<\/em> Signed \u2018TDoat S\u00e8vres\u2019 and dated \u2018July 1902\u2019\r\n\r\n<em>Provenance<\/em> Commissioned by architect Henri Lecoeur for the outdoor patio of the house\r\n\r\n\u2018La Belle Isloise\u2019, 7 rue du Panorama, Montigny-l\u00e8s-Cormeilles, France - Collection of Andr\u00e9-\r\n\r\nL\u00e9opold Baudouin, original owner of the house - The plaque remained in the house until\r\n\r\n2020, having subsequently been owned by Albert Pillot, Andr\u00e9 Bozo, Louis Lerondelle and\r\n\r\nPaul Dordonnat - Fauve, Paris, 24th October 2020, lot 3.\r\n\r\n<em>Similar pieces<\/em> This plaque is probably the most astonishing large scale creation by Doat\r\n\r\never recorded. He was more famous for his small vases and gourds and only made a handful\r\n\r\nof mural pieces in his fifty-year long career. It is more than twice the size of the plaque he\r\n\r\nmade three years later for his own house in S\u00e8vres. A S\u00e8vres expert established that the\r\n\r\nexecution of such a piece would have required an unusually large kiln and several months\r\n\r\nof very skilled work. This could help explain why 1902 was previously thought to have been\r\n\r\na slightly less busy year in Doat\u2019s production.
