Note In her notice of the object in the book dedicated to Jules Wièse, Author Silke Hellmuth reunites this cup with an octagonal enameled dish. She states that the removable inside bowl could indicate it was thought as a censer – or at least inspired by censers for decorative purposes only. There are no signs of use or wear. The enamel cloisonné decor is also the only surviving evidence of Wièse exploring this technique on a decorative object of this scale. Mrs. Hellmuth states that he may have collaborated with an enameller of his workshop; Émile-Désiré Philippe.
